QUEERUPTION 7 - GENERAL MEDIA RELEASE QUEERUPTION 7 Sex and anarchy in the antipodes 16-23 February 2005 Sydney, Australia A growing number of freaks, deviants, gender-terrorists, fashionistas, radicals, funsters and queers are planning QUEERUPTION 7, the latest in a global carnival of queer chaos and revolutionary fun. Set to happen in Sydney, Australia, from 16-23 February 2005, QUEERUPTION 7 will be seven days of talk-fests, graffiti-throw-ups, skate-boarding, hoola-hooping, jelly-wrestling, actions, workshops, parties, sex-spaces, pole-dancing, gender re- and de-assignment, make-up classes, hair-styling and bombe (alaska)-making. One of the contributors, Ms Itchy Bitch, of Darlinghurst said; “I can’t wait to participate in the jelly-wrestling! I love the feel of vegan hydroponic jelly sliding up my knickers! Agar-agar rocks my tranny-dyke universe!” Muscle-bound femme academic, Mr Spank-me-lightly, of UWS, part of the Sex-Party crew lisped; “We’re planning a no-holes-barred, all-holes-barred fuck-fest. It’s DIY, right, so every damned sexual freak in Sydney is contributing. I had no idea there were so many kinks out there. Actually, I’m kinda scared…” The various participants have stressed that instead of waiting for a capitalist-free utopia and a world without war, they are going to make it happen, right here, right now. Theory and politics, having your cake and eating it too and ensuring our queer brothers, sisters and tranny siblings around the world get their share; it’s all gunna be at Queeruption in Sydney, Feb 16-23, 2005. From the serious – like why Johnny Howard’s imperialism threatens cultures in the South Pacific – to the domestic, like vegan baking. From the empowering punk lifestyle-ism of DIY fetish wear (how to make a rubber harness from old bike inner tubes) to the gentrification of Redfern and invisibility of indigenous Queers and Sistagirls. This will be one gathering of empowered fun, critical chaos and democratic DIY action.
