queeruption first came to London in 1998, as a queercore weekender of workshops, talks, bands, parties and a whole lot more; this was expanded and built upon at queeruption New York.

QUEERUPTION! the Radical Queer Encuentro in 1999 was a week long gathering.

This continued with queeruption3 (Queeruption 2001), in San Francisco!

in London we're talking about something similar, albeit a one day happening at or around the same time as pride.

the idea is to bring together people who are fed up with the drift of pride into a scene of the glorification of gay and lesbian consumerism and assimilation, where the radical politics of yesteryear have disappeared. where we are left deluding ourselves that we're gaining a measure of tolerance in society, striving to be accepted 'cos "we're just like you". is this the right path to take? should we be concerning ourselves with 'the right' to be in the armed forces and is gay.com all we look for; a guide to the consumer durables that identify us as lesbian or gay? indeed is our sexuality or gender so definable, so co-modifiable? or can we explore a more fuller life that explores passion and freedom?

every year the PRIDE event becomes more commercial, more unaffordable and less something to be proud of.

if any of this rings true to you then join us in...
