Driving Directions to Queeruption

These directions are split in two parts. The first part tells you how to get to the ferry terminal in Vancouver we're departing from, and the second part tells you how to get from Langdale ferry terminal (on the other side of Howe Sound) to the Queeruption site.

Make sure you get on the correct ferry! Ask to take the ferry going to Langdale/the Sunshine Coast.

If you're driving to the Q10 Campsite, it is VERY important that you do not show up earlier than July 31st. The caretakers of the land do not want people camping there until July 31 st.

Border Tips

Crossing the border from the US into Canada:

By air:
A valid passport and secondary ID is required.

*New Passport Laws as of June 8th 2007 - What are the New Passport Requirements?

- The U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security announced that U.S. citizens traveling to Canada who have applied for but not yet received passports can temporarily enter and depart from the United States by air with a government issued photo ID and Department of State official proof of application for a passport through September 30, 2007.

By land:
A valid passport and secondary ID is preferred, but you can also cross with government-issued photo ID and a birth certificate.

If travelling with children, be aware they need valid ID also. If two parents are named on their birth certificate, but both are not present, the parent not present must write and sign a letter (preferably notarized) including their consent, a list of the adults accompanying along with the relation to the child, and the length and purpose of their visit.

Helpful tips for a smooth border-crossing

Common questions asked are:

place of birth, citizenship, current residence and employment
where will you be staying, purpose of visit and how long are you visiting for
how much money do you have on hand for your trip (a reasonable amount is $300 in your account or credit card, but over $10 000 must be declared)
Customs officers want to move you through within seconds, don’t give them reason to delay. Things to consider are:
don’t joke, don’t stall or don’t act up in any way
don’t offer information without being directly asked, simple yes or no answers are the best
remove sunglasses and visors and make eye contact
smile
pepper spray and mace are considered weapons, and wont be allowed across the border
-arrests do not come up on the computer, but convictions in the last 20 years do. If you have a criminal record, you may be able to apply for a waiver through your Department of State, for a fee of $200.
Some easy answers include (try not to mention party, festival or gathering, they are trigger words):
I am staying at a hostel, it is called Hostelling International, at 1114 Burnaby St, in downtown Vancouver.
I am staying at a hostel, it is called Cambie Hostels, at 310 Cambie St. in downtown Vancouver.
I am on vacation.

Pets across the border:
If you own cats older than three months, dogs older than eight months and pet dogs between three and eight months, you may import them from the United States as long as they accompany you when you enter Canada. You will also have to submit a certificate signed and dated by a veterinarian for each pet. The certificate must show that the animal is currently vaccinated against rabies and include the name of the vaccine used and its expiry date. In addition, it has to identify the animal by breed, age, sex, coloring and any distinguishing marks. We cannot accept an animal tag in place of a certificate. If you import pet dogs between three and eight months that do not accompany you, you may require additional permits and certifications.
